Students, Parents and Carers
If you, your child, bother, sister or dependent has an interest in outdoor, practical activities in preference to formal classroom/lecture studies, have a look at what Wyldwoods has to offer.Wyldwoods has qualified teachers with a great deal of experience in teaching but we differ from schools, colleges and 'day centres' because we operate in a more work-based, hands-on practical way - mostly outdoors. We call everyone by their first name or nickname (if they prefer) and you can call us by our first names too.
Before we begin we agree what we want to get out of our partnership, and we work together with our beneficiaries to achieve those goals. There may well be a certain amount of written work to do but this is only to produce a portfolio of evidence to show to either awarding bodies (if you are working on a certificated course) or to act as a record of activities for your own personal achievements.
Want to learn how to make bird and bat boxes? Create habitats for wild animals? Grow vegetables? Make hurdles? Carve wood? Cook food that you have grown? Identify birds, trees and wild flowers? We can offer all of these activites and a whole lot more besides. Care for small animals, cook eggs straight from the chicken coop, collect wood and make screens and baskets, learn to throw a pot on a potter's wheel... our only limit is our imagination.
What are you waiting for?
You can either contact us directly or through your local 'Connexions'. If you are still in full time (or even part time) education you need to talk to your teachers or carers and point them in the direction of this web site - www.wyldwoods.co.uk (that's Wyldwoods with a 'Y'!).
We look forward to hearing from you, but if you have any questions you would like to ask beforehand please feel free to contact us by email, telephone or letter.
So you're coming to Wyldwoods?
You will need to bring the following things with you:
- Clothes that you can get dirty and wet. Lots of layers of clothing on cold wet days will help you to keep warm. You can always take extra layers off!
- A good hat to keep your head warm and dry. Everyone loses more heat from the top of their head than any other part of their body.
- A healthy snack and drink for your break times and a packed lunch. Please don’t bring glass bottles, they can easily break and hurt others. if you have a problem with E-numbers try not to bring anything that contains them.
- We have steel toe capped wellington boots that you can borrow and we sanitize them every day, but you may prefer to bring your own. The very best types of footwear have 'toe caps' built in to protect your feet.
- Be ready to get dirty, join in and, most importantly, have fun!
Wyldwoods will provide you with a hard hat when doing certain woodland tasks and goggles when needed.
